Beijing Zoo

Yesterday we decided to go to Beijing Zoo to see the Pandas! Our friend Chao recommended it to us, plus its also a pretty cheap day out! We are now becoming experts with the subway and it ended up only taking around 15 minutes to get there- although we still managed to go in the wrong direction when leaving the subway and had to ask directions from the locals!

The main reason we went was to see the Giant Pandas, which were mostly in large enclosures behind glass- probably to stop the children feeding them! They were definately the main attraction of the place, with large groups of school childrens all excitted to see them. Although as soon as they noticed me and Ty, they seemed less fassinated with the Pandas and more with us- the staring and shocked faces are still taking a bit of getting use to for us! We think we arrived around dinner time as the Pandas were mainly near the back and only really showed interest when the zoo keepers walked past! They were a lot smaller than we were expecting- but sooo cute!!

Giant Panda around the other animals-Beijing zoo is enormous and apparently has over 450 different species- and we were determined to see them all. The lesser panda were even cuter than the giant ones- they look a bit like a mix of panda and fox and were a lot more active. There were a lot of strange looking animals as well that we had never heard off- I did start taking pictures, but sadly my camera ran out of juice (keep forgetting to charge it).

We both had a really great time, it was a lot cooler than the days before and so was a lot more bearable walking around- although I was wanting to top up on my tan a bit more! The only negatative thing we saw was the tigers enclosures. Their cages were about the same size as our hotel room and they were just pacing back and forth- I did get a bit emotional seeing them like that and so had to leave. The Moon Bear (or as they called it - sun bear) had also clearly gone mad in its enclosure and was just spinning round and round.
