Took a public bus from Dongzhimen long-distance bus station to Miyun. Slept a while. Bowen negotiated a taxi for 200 yuan each, about 20 quid, to take us to Jinshanling and pick us up at Simatai four hours later after we had hiked that section of the Great Wall.
Bowen headed off and me and Zahra took our time. We were pretty much the only ones up there. Parts of the wall were still covered in snow and as sections are not restored it was a scramble at times. The views are simply stunning and watching the wall zigzag its way over the hill line as you walk along it is indescribable. Everyone go and see it!
The photos cannot do it justice. At the Simatai end you have to cross a rope bridge suspended over water as the wall has fallen away here. From Simitai, you can walk down to the car park or zipline down over the lake. I ziplined! One last thrill for the end of the day and off back to Beijing with a huge smile on my face!
