Our whole trip was very interesting, however. First, we woke up at the crack of 7:30 (on our day off) and we all hoped in a bus (barely big enough for all of us. all of us being all of the Cambridge people, and Iowa along with AIESEC). We were told that this ride was only going to take about 3 hours.
As we started driving, about an hour into the trip, we all started noticing a faint smell of Gasoline. Aparetnly the driver noticed it as well b/c eventually we stoped at a roadside station for assistance, and a short 45 minutes later, we were back on the road, well at about 1:30 we finally arrived at a resturant that we ate lunch at. we arrived at the wall at about 2:30. We pulled up, and it was just amazing. From the bottom it looks awe inspiring.
From there we took a ride to as far as we could go up. Which, I personally thought would take us all of the way up. Boy was I WRONG!!! We got up, and it was about 1000-1500 meters up, and by UP, I mean it was STEEP. I was really out of breath after about 100 meters! Finally, after we made it to the top, we had the most amazing view I have ever witnessed.
Words really can't describe the absolute beauty, and majestic feeling you feel standing on top of something that you have only seen on television. So from there, we walked to the highest part of the wall that we could, and then walked down b/c we had to make sure we got to the zip line before it closed. So we walked along, and stopped periodically to take pictures and just suck in the experience.
After a walk, (about an hour long) we got to the zip line, and zipped down, and we then got on a boat and road back to the bus.
This was an incredible experience. I really don't think that it could be any better. I almost think i might go back to the Great Wall, this time to the very Tourist area. There are a couple places that I will Make sure i go back to, either alone, or with people, and the Great Wall is most definitely one of those places.
